There’s the Manchester Velodrome National Cycling Centre, home to the GB Olympic team, the 3.5million Regional Athletics Arena at Manchester's Sportcity and four Olympic size swimming pools - and that's just for starters.
As the birthplace of English football, the Northwest boasts some of the world's most famous football stadiums. And with Premiership sides Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC and Everton all based here, the Northwest reputation as UK’s number one region for sport is sealed.
Getting here
Easily accessible by air, rail and road, the Northwest enjoys excellent transport links with the rest of the UK, Europe and world.
Manchester and Liverpool international airports fly to over 200 destinations worldwide. Within the region there are excellent road and rail links that connect the two major cities, Liverpool and Manchester, in less than 45 minutes.
The Northwest is also within easy travelling distance of the rest of the UK. London is just an hour away by air and around two hours by train, with over 77 trains to the capital every day.
